Strengthening practice to raise GLD

Nationally, the focus on school readiness is sharpening. The Government has set an ambition for 75% of children to reach a Good Level of Development (GLD) by 2028, up from around 68% currently. GOV.UK+1 GLD is achieved when children meet the expected level in the Early Learning Goals that matter most for readiness—particularly Communication & Language, PSED and Physical Development (with GLD reporting used widely to drive improvement planning). GOV.UK


BSP helps schools raise outcomes by strengthening what sits underneath GLD: curriculum coherence, high-quality interactions, language-rich provision, purposeful assessment and consistent practice across teams. Early Years Network Meetings (termly)

Our Early Years Network Meetings take place termly at College Green, bringing together EY leads and practitioners from across the partnership to share what works, strengthen consistency and accelerate impact on outcomes (including GLD). Each session is practical and tightly focused—combining current priorities, exemplification and resource-sharing with professional dialogue, problem-solving and agreed next steps to take back to your setting.

You can expect a warm, high-trust space with a clear purpose: improving practice in Nursery and Reception through curriculum clarity, language-rich provision, strong continuous provision, meaningful assessment and inclusion. Meetings also create a reliable rhythm for moderation, troubleshooting and collaborative planning, so schools build capacity together rather than working in isolation.
